Vector 3 - Record & Edit Audio App Reviews

Not worth the money!

This app is not at all user friendly and it is in my opinion not worth the money! It is not intuitive and has a very limited set of editing features. I have edited audio/video files on windows and found that to be much easier than working with this Apple related product.

Good but ...

the selection process to highlight audio, that basic process is the main drawback. There are a lot of things you can do that mirror Adobe. However the fact you have to deal with the prime (really only) issue every time you use the program, gets frustrating.

Constantly Crashes

Every time I try and import an MP4 music file it crashes. Every time.

Keep em coming

wow this is the third or fourth update on Vector2 in just weeks, keep them coming please! it’s awesome to see the developer actively working on this audio editor. I’ve been producing various types (mostly electronic) of music since the days of Soundedit. If you have been around as long as I have you’ll know that a good audio editor has never really existed for Mac. Months ago while browsing the Mac App store I was drawn to Vector2 simply because it’s visually pleasing (aka. I LOOKS COOL). Yes, I know that 20 bucks is a lot to pay for looks, but as I just tried to explain I have long had a void to fill in this category. Thanks to all the recent updates Vector2 now has my attention, so much so that I felt it needed a review, and if i’m lucky the developer will listen. This app does what it says, and it will record your voicememos while at the same time mostly likely be the nicest, most interesting looking app on your screen. For an application that markets itself as glorified voice memo recorder it defintly offers everything you could get in the category. But I also see an app that wants to present itself as a must-have audio utility for any musician with Garageband, Logic, even Ableton Live. To te dev: THere is a huge space for this I believe. Don’t think Multitrack audio recorder, but think more in sound-design-loop-creator-workbench. Make it easy for me to load up a few minutes of audio that I recorded from another app, and select sections at a time of audio using an intuitive “bpm based sample selector” so that I can input a tempo and easily pick whole beats, 1/2 note, 1/4 note eqivelents of time (minutes:seconds), and after i’ve trimmed/ cut/copied/ ultimately pasted said audio, allow me the ability manipulate and to add effects to this piece of audio with the option to Lock-In the begining and end points (or not) so that I know I’m staying in time, which will keep me “in the loop” at whatever bpm i was working for. Of course, it would be awesome IF when you DID changed you start and end (selections) the bpm would dynamically change as well. Then bring her home by adding an Apple Loop creator, IF Apple will allow it. There is absolutly NO Apple Loops creator/ converter tool in exsistance. And yes I know you can make them with Logic, but in practice you can’t. Not the way people like me want to use them. This may seem like something trivial, but as a musician for well over a decade I promise people WILL notice. Im sure my attempt to explain my “idea” in words just now probably won’t read as it should. But it’s worth a shot. Oh yeah one other thing, if you are afraid you might turn off your target market by offering more professional audio features, hence taking away from the “voice memo recorder”, why not take a page from the Apple Logic X playbook and have Vector2 default to a “Simple Mode” where to access these musician based features the user would have to go into preferences and hit a check box or two, ala Advanced Mode enable. Well that’s enough of what i think. 4 stars this time, but if i notice an effort by the dev to crank this baby up a notch, you can expect 5 stars from me with every update. Oh yeah, and people would talk, word would get around that there is an audio editor for Mac, finally.

The Hits Just Keep on Rolling

Vector 2 is an excellent product. We pass all of our live audio productions through it to MP3 format via an Avid MBOX 3 Pro and then, once we have what we like, we head to Pro Tools and break down our tracks. Vector works right out of the box without any of the tweaking most products initially require. Easy, quick and simple saves us a ton of time! Additionally, the author continues to improve and add new features to an already solid product. Keep up the great work…

Refund?

I have had this app for about 5 minutes. I have tried to open .wav and .mp4 files to no avail. I have created a new file and then try to import the files into it, again no dice. Everytime I do anything it crashes. The UI looks pretty friendly it just doesnt function AT ALL unfortunately.

Great, Great App!

Just downloaded this this app and started using it by running a stereo output from my mixing board through an M-Audio Firewire Solo into my mac. I absolutely love it. So simple in function. Sounds great. Everything I was hoping for and more. Best $20 I’ve spent in the app store, maybe ever.

Works well

I like the ease of editing files. There is on thing I miss, though. I wish it had the capability of converting wma files.

Excellent Product

This product is an excellent match for our needs, which is recording an extensive suite of audio products, with the ability to extensively edit as needed, and ultimately make a suite of mp3 audio files. It has exceeded our expectations, and is a delight to work with - a 180 degree change from the first product we tried in this category, which was a total disappointment. We coud not do the project we’re working on, or not do it efficiently, without this.

Good, but needs a little work

I needed an audio editor for basic functions - fade in/out, add silence, adjust gain, etc… this does all of that. The interface needs to be worked out a little more and I’ve had a handful of crashes, though it generally does what I need it to do. A little more work and this application would be perfect!

Awesome Application

This does a great job! I have used other apps in the past that cost a lot more money than this one, but the quality and ease of use are amazing!

Works Great

I’ve digitized many records using Vector. It has all the tools I need, especially “Split at markers and export”, and it works great - never crashes.

Delivers As Promised

Once you follow the directions to set up SoundFlower and custom inputs, Vector works like a charm. For the past few years, I’ve been using WireTap Studio to record sound bites from Mac OS. Now that WireTap Studio is no longer compatible with Yosemite, this app serves as the perfect replacement. Does everything I need and MORE!

Gets the job done reliably

Top notch audio recorder app that works right everytime. Using with Soundflower, no problems. Nice effects set with plenty of options.

Not worth the loss of work

I just lost 30 minutes of work due to this app crashing. It is nice app when it works, but is missing a lot of simple functionality that would make it much nicer to use for power users, such as keyboard shortcuts, marker navigation, etc. Overall its slow, clunky and prone to crashing. It may look pretty, but I dont need that. I need something that will get the job done as efficiently as possible.

Can i get my money back please

I dont understand this at all. Please ive had it for 5mins and dont see how i can possibly do anything i wanted on this. MONEY BACK PLEASE!

Odd

Okay, everybody’s different, but my experience with Vector was so different from other reviews that I read. After reading the cursory instructions, I spent three hours trying to make a simple edit in a music file. Finally gave up on Vector and purchased Amadeus Lite. The edit was done perfectly on the first try in about three minutes with A-L. It does make me wonder when my experience with a product is so different from that of others. And it’s not that I’m brand new to music editing. I’ve been doing it off and on for over forty years. Hmmm.

Not as intuitive as I would like

Overall it does the job I need it to do, but for an audio novice like me, it would be nice if the user interface were a little more intuitive. What is awesome about it is that I have yet to find an audio format it can’t import and handle. That’s what I needed. I don’t do much with audio, but it’s nice to have this tool to fix the audio files that come to me with problems.

Not as many features as you want

This app has limited functionality. You can use garageband which comes by default with new apple computers for free and it has way more functionality and features to it. This app seems dull and simple, and it’s just that. If you’re going to create podcasts, I’d use Garageband or if you’re creating music use garageband. I got to say I am a little disappointed with this app. No offense to the developers.

Simply Does Not Work for Streaming

To record streams, Vector needs Soundflower to work. Soundflower will not install on El Capitan, as far as I can tell. Product support provides a link to software that does not install. The manual lists a link that is expired, and offers a different link. That link is a long discussion about how Soundflower stopped installing/working. SO, despite the advertisement that Vector can record streams, in real life it would seem that it cannot. A wasted hour. Avoid. As an alternative, iSkysoft does work on my El Capitan system. Pricey, but at least it works...
